INTERVIEW: AVA2005

Earlier this year we got to catch up with young producer from North Carolina AVA2005 Fresh off a new release on ProofLA, she’s quickly emerging as an artist to watch in the coming months. I was able to chat with Ava a bit about what led her to make music and what it’s like in NC. Here is the interview we did back in June. ✦

SFM: Tell us about yourself, where you're from, how long have you been producing?

AVA: Hi I’m AVA2005. My real name is Alex. I'm from North Carolina. I've been producing since I was 10 years old.

SFM: I discovered you on SC after hearing Aurora, untitled 1, 2 which are my favorites. How would you describe your music style and what inspires you?

AVA:My style is mostly like raw and a little melodic. I take inspiration from multiple types of music like shoegaze, trance and a bunch of other styles. Ive always liked electronic music so im always creating stuff in my bedroom.

SFM: Who or what inspired you to get into music?

AVA: As a kid, Ive always listened to my dads CD collection. The CDs i listened to were mostly trance, house, hardstyle and hard house. It was my dads taste that got me into this music. I remember when my brother first got fl studio and I started playing around with loops and tried making edm. I never stopped or got discouraged from producing.

SFM: How is the music scene where you are from? Any artists you wanna shout out or artist people can check out that you're into?

AVA: To be fair, I havent gone into the local scene, yet cause im not 21 yet but there are djs and people that like electronic music. Again, i cant say much cuz im not tapped in yet. But i met a producer online from North Carolina named Tan Tan who makes really dope techno. Theres also a guy called Chaos Control from NC who I never met but ive seen his videos of him jamming out on instagram. Super talented.

SFM: Do you have anything you're working on currently or any releases coming up?

AVA: I always say im gonna drop an EP and shit but I never get it done. Most attempts fail cuz most tracks end up sounding different from each other. Thats my goal this year tho. To make a proper EP, self-released or not. Anyways, I got many tracks that I wanna drop on soundcloud/bandcamp. I just need to finish them lol
