This week we got to chat with Marcus Sanchez who plays bass in the bands: Madrugado (Power Violence/Punk) and Serenity (Metalcore/Hardcore) Marcus also is a film photographer based in San Diego. You can check out his work @mvrcusx. In this interview we talk about how he got into taking photos, playing music, and what sparks his creative inspiration.

PA: I been following your photography for a couple of years now on IG it’s always sick, how did you get into film?

Marcus: Photography has always been around growing up mainly because my mom wanted to capture all her moments. One day we were cleaning the house to get rid of stuff when I randomly found her Olympus Stylus and the zoom. Maybe a month or two after I started shooting with my homies older band which was around 2014.

PA: That’s cool man where in SD did you grow up?

Marcus: I grew up in Escondido!

PA: When did you get into heavy music and start playing in bands?

Marcus: I got into heavy music in late 5th grade/early 6th grade watching MTV accidently skipping through the channels and seeing one of Slipknots music videos. I started playing in bands maaybe 2015/2016 and honestly the first gigs were just fun and exciting, since we were just playing to homies most of the time which was always truly fun!

PA: Is there any memorable moments you can think of since you been playing?

Marcus: One story that comes to mind is when we played a house called the Safe Haus in the outskirts of Escondido and I remember the owner telling us we couldn’t play because of how obnoxious everyone would get. Some weeks flew by and our homies that were in a band called Frontside played the same spot and dared us to play lmao. Of course we did just using their gear and of course the place got fucked up hahaha RIP THE SAFE HAUS

PA: How do you feel about the current scene, is there any bands that are inspiring to you at the moment?

Marcus: It’s cool as hell seeing different types of people come to shows and seeing so many new faces but some of these mfs be smelly!! The bands I find inspiring or just bands that give me that urge to play are Jesus Piece, Soul Search, and Incendiary.
